Tadalafil is the generic name of Cialis. It is FDA-approved to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and urinary symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia, (BPH).
Tadalafil relaxes muscles of the blood vessels and increases blood flow to particular areas of the body including the penis. The Cialis brand of tadalafil is used in men to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) and symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate). Adcirca and Alyq are used in men and women to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and to improve exercise capacity. Tadalafil may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

How should you take tadalafil?
Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Take tadalafil exactly as directed.
For erectile dysfunction, take Cialis or tadalafil before sexual activity but not more than once per day. Tadalafil may be effective for up to 36 hours.
Tadalafil (Cialis) can help achieve an erection when sexual stimulation occurs. An erection will not occur just by taking a pill.
Tadalafil can be taken with or without food and should be taken approximately twenty (20) to sixty (60) minutes before you plan to have intercourse. Be mindful that a large meal will slow the absorption of the medication so it will take longer before it starts to work.
Tadalafil tablets may be split.
When taking Adcirca or Alyq, you may need two (2) tablets for a full dose. Take both tablets one after the other. Do not split the dose.
Do not take Cialis for erectile dysfunction if you are taking Adcirca or Alyq for pulmonary arterial hypertension.
How long does tadalafil last?
A single tablet of tadalafil will stay in your body for approximately thirty-six (36) hours. This is a longer duration of action compared to most other erectile dysfunction medications such as Viagra. This also allows for greater spontaneity with respect to the timing of sexual activity.
