Flovent Diskus
Flovent HFA
Fluticasone is a corticosteroid that works directly in the lungs to make breathing easier by reducing the swelling and inflammation of the airways. When the inflammation has gone, your airways are much less likely to become narrow and cause symptoms such as wheezing. This medication must be used regularly to prevent the wheezing and shortness of breath caused by asthma, bronchitis, or some types of emphysema.
This medication does not work immediately and therefore will not help treat sudden wheezing attacks. A different medication is used to treat this; so if you have more than one medication, be careful not to confuse them.
Fluticasone is available on its own in an inhaler, and also in combination with other medicines, such as salmeterol, formoterol or vilanterol. These are medicines which also help to control the symptoms of asthma.
Fluticasone inhalation may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Fluticasone (for inhalation) is sold under these US brand names:

Inhale this medication by mouth usually twice a day or as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
It is recommended that you use a spacer device with this medication.

Flovent Diskus is a powder form of fluticasone that come with a special inhaler device preloaded with blister packs containing measured doses of fluticasone. The device opens and loads a blister of fluticasone each time you use the inhaler. The powder is inhaled using the force of your own breath. Follow the instructions for using the device and cleaning.
To prevent dry mouth, hoarseness and oral yeast infections from developing, gargle and rinse your mouth after each use. Do not swallow the rinse solution.
Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. This medication works best if used consistently at even intervals. Remember to use it at the same times each day.
Do not increase your dose, use this more frequently, or stop using this medication without first consulting your doctor.
It may take up to 2 weeks or longer before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
Keep track of the number of inhalations used from each canister. Discard the canister after you have used the number of inhalations specified on the manufacturer’s package.
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Store at room temperature; in a dry area.
Keep the powder forms in the unopened foil pouch or tray until ready to use. Throw away any unused medicine when the inhalations counter on your inhaler device shows “0.”
