Managing and Organizing Your Prescriptions In Four Easy Steps

News January 20, 2020 | CanadaOnlineHealth

In the midst of working, managing a family and ensuring all of your daily tasks are completed, remembering to take your medication can easily slip your mind. When you take several medications at various times daily, weekly or monthly, it’s imperative to keep them organized for easier management. Remembering where you placed them, which prescription you need and the required dosage can be overwhelming when they aren’t labelled, organized and in an accessible location.

Luckily, the key to managing your medications can be achieved in four simple steps. Check out how to organize your prescriptions below to ensure you’re taking the correct dosage, on time and safely.

Purchase A Pill Organizer/Box

Pill organizers are extremely handy, tangible items that allow for the basic organization of your medications for each day of the week. The pillbox will have certain compartments to separate and differentiate between your prescriptions. The pill organizer often has seven compartments, one for each day of the week, however, you can purchase pill organizers with more slots for each day if you take more than one medication each day. It also helps to mark down on your dosage schedule to keep a description of each medication, such as “large blue pill.”

Create A Chart For Your Medication Dosages

If you have purchased your medications from one of Canada Online Health online pharmacy partners or any other retail or online pharmacy, you may create a dosing chart to effectively manage your medication. List each of the prescriptions you need to take along the top of the page along with the times to take them and indicate the dates to take them down the side of the page.  Next, following the directions on the pharmacy medication bottle or the directions from your physician, create a column for each time the dose is taken and check off after each time you take your pill. If you have prescriptions that needs to be refrigerated, be sure to include that on the dosage chart.  Please see Table 1, below, for a patient on a blood thinner, cholesterol medication, and asthma inhalers.

Use An App

With virtually everything we do and how we interact is through our digital devices; it makes sense to use your smartphone for medication management as well. There are several apps available for smartphones and tablets to make medication organization far easier. These apps allow you to find information about your specific medications, create a dosage and medication schedule and allow notifications to remind you when it’s time to take a certain medication.

Get Single-Dose Medication Packets

You can predate a single dose online medication or packets for easier organization. This way, you will be able to organize your single dose medications into specific, separate packets marked with the date, dosage and time of the day for you to take the prescriptions.
